FAQ
Registered Office Address
What is a registered office address?
A registered office address is the official legal address of a UK limited company. It must be registered with Companies House and is where official correspondence from Companies House, HMRC and other government bodies will be sent. Every UK limited company is legally required to have a registered office address.
Can I use my home address as a registered office?
Yes, you can use your home address as your registered office, but this means it will appear on the public Companies House register and be visible to anyone. Many directors prefer to use a professional registered office address service to keep their home address private.
Does my registered office address need to be in the same country as my company?
Yes. Your registered office must be in the same country where your company is incorporated. For example, a company incorporated in England and Wales must have a registered office in England or Wales.
How do I change my registered office address?
You can change your registered office address by filing form AD01 with Companies House. The change must be within the same country of incorporation. Spectre Offices can provide administrative support with this process.
How long does the registered office address service last?
Our registered office address service is provided on a 12-month basis. All company directors must be verified with Companies House before the service can be activated.
Virtual Office
What is a virtual office?
A virtual office gives your business a professional address and mail handling service without the need to rent or occupy a physical office space. It is ideal for remote workers, startups, freelancers and limited companies who want a credible business presence at an affordable cost.
What locations do you offer virtual office addresses in?
Spectre Offices offers virtual office addresses across multiple UK cities including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast and Liverpool.
Can I use a virtual office address on my website and business cards?
Yes. Our virtual office address can be used on your website, business cards, invoices and marketing materials to give your business a professional presence.
Director Service Address
What is a director service address?
A director service address is the address that appears on the public Companies House register for company directors, shareholders and persons with significant control (PSCs). Using a professional director service address keeps your personal home address off the public register.
Who needs a director service address?
Any company director, shareholder or person with significant control who wants to keep their home address private on the public Companies House register can benefit from a director service address.
Is a director service address the same as a registered office address?
No. A registered office address is the official address of the company itself. A director service address is the personal address listed for individual directors and officers. You may need both services separately.
Mail Handling & Forwarding
What happens to my mail?
Mail received at your Spectre Offices address is handled according to your chosen service. This can include mail forwarding to your preferred address or mail scanning, where your mail is opened, scanned and sent to you digitally by email.
How many free mail scans do I get?
Our registered office address service includes 10 free post-scans sent to your inbox each month.
Will I receive my Companies House and HMRC mail?
Yes. All official correspondence from Companies House and HMRC received at your registered office address will be handled and forwarded to you promptly.

What is a confirmation statement?

What is Companies House identity verification?
